Goats of Anarchy

For the last several years, I’ve had the honor of co-authoring picture books with Leanne Lauricella, founder of Goats of Anarchy, an animal rescue based in New Jersey. Leanne’s sanctuary caters to animals with special needs, those who require individualized medical care. The series is beautifully illustrated by Jill Howarth and includes photos of Leanne’s life on the farm. It has been a pleasure to work as coauthor and editor of the series, collaborating with Leanne at each stage of the process, from book maps and first drafts to completed full-color manuscript.

Piney the Goat Nanny

The third book in the Goats of Anarchy series tells the true story of Piney, a piglet eager to find his place on the farm.  Piney spends his days looking after baby goats who are new arrivals. A pig with a heart of gold, Piney cuddles with little goats on cold nights and encourages them to be strong. Piney discovers that he has the most important job of all—he is a goat nanny! A truly heartwarming tale, Piney’s story will appeal to animal lovers of all ages.

The loving encounters among animals of different species (and Lauricella’s real-world endeavor to help animals with special needs) are great examples to help children develop empathy.
